Angela Gallo, a senior at Lewiston-Porter High School, was elected governor at the 2013 American Legion Auxiliary Empire Girls State Program held June 29 to July 6 at Brockport State College.
Gallo was one of 360 girls across the state who were interviewed, selected and sponsored by one of the their local American Legion Auxiliary units. She was sponsored by the O. Leo Curtiss American Legion Auxiliary Unit 830 in Ransomville.
“We are so proud of her and her achievements. All of the girls that participated in the session were outstanding individuals,” said ALA Unit President Catherine Neiswonger.
Gallo is a member of the Leadership for the Youth of Niagara County, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Key Club, Lancer Council and band. She was elected secretary and historian for her 2014 Senior Class.

The weeklong leadership program focused on governmental process and the Constitution. The Girls State citizens built a mythical 51st state government from the local level to state level. Citizens participated in campaigns, rallies, speeches, elections, legislative committees, community service project and created bills.

Cheryl Wienckowski, a former Seneca Gaming Corp. executive, has been appointed director of special events and projects for the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Foundation. She will coordinate fundraising and development activities, and manage all special events for the medical center.
“The Memorial Medical Center Foundation takes pride in producing first-class events such as The Premier dinner-dance and the Niagara Cup Classic Golf Tournament,” said Ann Marie Tucker, Memorial’s vice president for foundation and community relations. “Cheryl’s background and experience will help us take those events to another level, while her leadership skills will bring real value to all of our fundraising efforts.”
Wienckowski is a previous director of food and beverage at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel and was vice president of food and beverage at the Seneca Allegany Niagara Casino & Hotel. She also worked for Delaware North Companies’ SportService management team at Ralph Wilson Stadium, where she oversaw the operations of 164 luxury suites and all eight premium clubs, including the Jim Kelly clubs, Van Miller Club and Paul McGuire Club.

Sheriff James R. Voutour announced the following promotions at the Niagara County Correctional Facility:
Kevin M. Payne, chief jail administrator. He became a corrections officer in February 1988 and was promoted to captain in 1996. Payne, a 25-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, served in the Army and is a graduate of Niagara County Community College.
Aaron M. Livergood, captain. He became a corrections officer in January 2001 and was promoted to sergeant in 2011. Livergood, a 12-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, served in the Army National Guard and is a graduate of Niagara County Community College.
David M. Weaver, sergeant. Hired October 1997, he was promoted to acting sergeant in 2011. Weaver, a 12-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, is a graduate of Niagara County Community College.
Jonathan L. Wilt, acting sergeant. Hired January 2000, Wilt is a 9-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office and holds degrees from Canton College of Technology and Niagara County Community College.
