NIAGARA FALLS – The removal of part of the Robert Moses Parkway, from John Daly Boulevard leading into Niagara Falls State Park, moved a step closer Thursday, as the board of Empire State Development approved a $1.5 million allocation to the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to pay for the final design of the removal and reconfiguration of the road.
The one-mile section serves as an entry road to the state park for travelers approaching from the east and south. It is to be replaced with a scaled-down park road that would look less like an expressway. The money is part of the “Buffalo Billion” that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo promised for economic development in Western New York.
Also approved Thursday was $316,605 from the Buffalo Billion for Edison Welding Institute to develop a business plan for the Buffalo Niagara Institute for Manufacturing Competitiveness.
