WHEATFIELD – Two Niagara County companies were approved Wednesday for allocations of discount electricity from the county’s Empower Niagara program.

The County Legislature’s Economic Development Committee approved the Empower Niagara board’s recommendations of 200 kilowatts for Diversified Manufacturing of Lockport and 150 kilowatts for Delfingen U.S. of Wheatfield.

They are the ninth and tenth companies the county has aided since the power became available in 2008.

The program still has 380 kilowatts available, Economic Development Commissioner Samuel M. Ferraro said.

Diversified Manufacturing is constructing a nearly $5 million expansion of its plant to accommodate the former operations of IPAC, an Amherst firm with the same ownership, whose work and 46 jobs are moving to Lockport, where about 100 are currently employed.

Delfingen, a French-owned company that makes wire insulation protectors, bought a rival firm and is moving its work to Wheatfield.

Its workforce will grow from the current 30 to 53.
