LOCKPORT – The organizers of the Lockport Community Garden at Washburn and South streets will offer free flowers and flower pots to neighborhood children from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The garden, laid out this spring after city approval, was made available to local church members and residents of Lockport’s poorer neighborhoods to grow flowers and fresh vegetables for themselves.

The garden is operated by Imagine Community Gardens, which purchased three parcels of land earlier this year and laid out 25 garden plots.

Some radishes and lettuce already have been harvested, according to gardening consultant Richard M. Tedeschi.

The garden will be part of the city’s annual “Lockport in Bloom” garden walk July 13 and 14, Tedeschi said.
