NIAGARA FALLS - Local officials Wednesday marked the recent completion of a nearly four-year paving project along Lewiston Road.

The roughly $12 million project – 80 percent of which was covered by the federal government and 15 percent by the state – saw several delays because of radiological material found below the road surface, as well as a dispute with the first contractor, Man O’Trees of West Seneca. The city has sued Man O’Trees, and the litigation is ongoing.

About 1,900 cubic yards of radiological material was removed and sent to a landfill in Michigan, said Mayor Paul A. Dyster.

The 1.9-mile project was eventually completed Aug. 8 by Accadia Site Contracting of Depew, which was paid about $4.9 million for its share of the work, Dyster said.
