The Three Stooges made 190 short films between 1934 and 1959, and Lenny Potwora has shown many of them in his 22 years of staging the Three Stooges Film Festival at the Riviera Theatre (67 Webster St., North Tonawanda). This year, he’ll show one he has never screened in all those years – “Idle Roomers,” from 1944, in which Moe, Larry and Curly play bellhops at a swanky hotel, complete with round caps and brass-buttoned jackets. But that’s just a start. You’ll have to see it to appreciate the far-fetched humor of the trio. And during the special prefilm musical appearance by the classic rock band the Knuckleheads, with Potwora on drums, a medley and a special appearance will give a hint of what’s to follow in that short.
The crowd, which ranges from youngsters to seniors, none of whom are shy about belting out a “Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk!” on cue, will begin its evening with a 6:45 p.m. organ concert Saturday on the Mighty Wurlitzer. The Knuckleheads follow, and then the lights dim, the curtains part and the Stooges take the stage.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. They will be sold in advance at Hollywood Collectibles in the McKinley Mall (828-0139), and at the door.
