LOCKPORT – As of last week, more than 1,000 plastic ducks had been sold for this year’s Lockport Duck Race in the Erie Canal, organizer Jay Krull said.
The race, which will benefit the Lockport Lions Club, will start at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the North Adam Street bridge. Festivities surrounding the race, including food, music and children’s activities, will run from 1 to 4 p.m.
Ducks, which have been on sale since May at more than 20 locations, cost $5 each.
They also will be available at the starting line of the race until 2 p.m. Saturday.
The first five finishers will win prizes. First prize is a chest freezer from Murphy Appliance and $100 in groceries from Niagara Produce Lockport. Other prizes include a family dinner and movie night from Cammarata’s and the Palace Theatre; $150 in gas from Crosby’s Service; a 19-inch HDTV; and a $100 gift certificate from Garlock’s Restaurant.
After the race, there will be a drawing for more than 40 consolation prizes donated by local businesses.
