LOCKPORT – The Common Council agreed last week to sell two small parcels of land near the corner of Lincoln and Beattie avenues to the state Department of Transportation for a total of $1,000.

The parcels, one 15 by 18 feet and the other 15 by 80 feet, were sought by the DOT as part of the plan to repave Lincoln Avenue in 2014. The land was needed to accommodate planned turning lanes in all four directions at the Lincoln-Beattie intersection.

The street reconstruction, which will include new sidewalks where none now exist, will be carried out on Lincoln between Beattie Avenue and Akron Road.

Most of the work, about 80 percent, will be paid for through $6 million in federal funds.

The state will pay 15 percent, and Niagara County will pay the remaining 5 percent.
