NIAGARA FALLS - A Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen - which would be the second in Western New York - has been proposed for the corner of Niagara Falls Boulevard and Military Road.

A proposal for the project will come before the city Planning Board on Wednesday night.

The building, to be located in the Mil-Pine Plaza, which is anchored by an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, would be a 2,190-square-foot, 60-seat restaurant with a double drive-thru, according to information submitted to the board.

The proposal is being made by the Benchmark Group of Amherst, which manages the site, on behalf of Mill-Pine Plaza Chicken Corp., which has a Queens address, according to information on file with the state Department of State.

The property is owned by Mil-Pine Plaza Associates LP, according to city property records.

A representative of Benchmark did not respond to a call for comment.

This is the second new restaurant planned for that intersection - a Duff’s Famous Wings is going into the Pine Plaza.

It’s also the second Popeyes proposed for the region. The first is slated to open in October at 2106 Elmwood Ave. in North Buffalo,

According to the Popeyes website, the closest existing locations are across the border in Niagara Falls and St. Catharines, Ont.

Popeyes also has a location on Lake Avenue in Rochester, according to the company’s website.

AFC Enterprises Inc. operates and franchises both Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits locations.

At the end of last year, there were 2,104 Popeyes restaurants globally with more than 50 in New York state, AFC Enterprises said in its 2012 annual report.
