The Homerun for Hospice tournament held in April raised $2,137 for Niagara Hospice. High school baseball teams from Depew, Lewiston-Porter, Starpoint and Wilson competed.
Lew-Port varsity coach Mark Waple organized the event as a way for the players to learn the importance of giving back to the community. “I’m proud of all of the players, they did a great job, and we were glad to be able to help Niagara Hospice with our donation,” Waple said.
Players from each school collected donations before the tournament, while sponsorships from local businesses and community members helped make the event a success. “The players did a great job raising money, and our sponsors were so generous to donate to the event,” said Maureen Rizzo of Niagara Hospice.
